I like the 3 month pricing plans. This is the second time I am using their service. I enjoy the competitive rates cause I have an all electric house. — Soccrpav from Pittsburgh PA
NRG provides the best cost, service, & support. Just make sure to call after the introductory period to guarantee you keep getting the best rate. It takes just a couple minutes. The representatives are extremely professional and efficient. I definitely recommend you consider NRG. — Joseph from Dayton OH
I read all the 1 star reviews and realize they all have something in common. You people were stupid and never called back after the 3 month promotion to keep the fixed rate, like the rep said.
I would highly recommend NRG, just dont be stupid and not call back when the rep says, because yes the rates go to variable if you don't call back. Just as they say. Give NRG some credit. — Amy from Eastlake OH

12 months is the best experience for staying competitive. Only downfall, I wanted to stay with them but staying competitive is not there strong suit.
Nrg offers amazing plans you just have to make sure you renew your rate! Thats your responsibility in order to save some money! The reps tell you that when you sign up! Open your ears and maybe youll be happy with it....
Great company, knowledgeable employees, only problem once u've used your fixed contract they get expensive from their on. They have good promo's, and now fair teaser rates, they used to be better. Highly responsible company so if rates are not the issue I highly recommend.
Im Not in NRG but soon will be .. you people ALL of you who wrote a negative reply about NRG you need to understand that its not there fault as Humans beings we are all looking for that "DEAL" but how long do you really think its going to last yes they give you treats to join but they also mention that its INTRODUCTORY offer meaning its going to change and the funny part its right there in-front of you but like ALL humans Me included we dont read the fine print .. it clearly tells you that after the introductory offer that if you do not reply back your rate will go to a Variable until at which point you decide to reup with the Utility, People its YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to read your mail not NRGs so stop your bitchin and start reading enough said
I signed up with some guy in Walmart. I usually don't stop at those kind of things but he seemed so happy i had to see what it was all about. I signed up before thanksgiving. First bill i saved a few dollars. I noticed a difference when my bill went from $220 down to $175. I saw these reviews and noticed everyone saying the same thing. The very few writing 5 star reviews are satisfied with NRG's service. Call and keep the program. Everyone wants to write a bad review when something doesn't go their way. Nobody writes a good review, when it meets their expectations.
The people, service and saving are great. I would highly recommend them.
Everyone complaining that their rates went up, its because you didnt renew like the rep told you to. Its not that hard to understand. If you renew, youll keep your rates low.
NRG saved me so much on my bill. I was paying $233 of the 2 fees they take off, and my bill was only$476. They reminded me to call back after 3 months or my rates would go up. In glad I called back.
The customer service representatives were very nice. I switched with NRG a few months ago, and when they stopped me, they reminded me to call back, so my rate didn't go to a variable rate.
I tried this out and I liked it. I almost forgot to call back to keep the fixed rate. They saved me a few $100 across the 3 months. I would highly recommend them.
Whenever I look at the reviews from something, they are full of hate, and the bad reviews, not so much good, so I will leave my experience. It only took NRG to appear on my bill, and when they did my bill went down $137. They had me put a reminder in my phone to call them back in three months, and when I called I got the 5% cash back, and my rate was still really low. Now I'm earning money back for my electric. It's like being paid to use electric. I would highly recommend them.
I highly recommend them!! The reps are very nice and informative! You just gotta call back at 3 months to keep your low rate. Please listen when the reps tell you things they work there and theyre the experts. Thank you NRG
I tried it in a Sams called back in 3 months 3years later im saving money and getting checks
Great service I'm very happy with my customer service experience and lower bill.
I read all the 1 star reviews and realize they all have something in common. You people were stupid and never called back after the 3 month promotion to keep the fixed rate, like the rep said.

Yall are stupid....like seriously....the rep told me to remember to call after the 3 month promotional rate..and I did! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT THEY DROPPED ME TO 6.2 cents per kWh! PEOPLE!!! Please dont be stupid and call to update the rate on time!!
Great girl in the store, told me that the price would be promotional and I would need to call to lock in price after 3 months, now I get cash back on my bill and a right plan for myself, if you dont call your rate will go back to variable just like com Ed already does. Its really simple. Happy customer

Rates are adjusted QUARTERLY to undercut the distributor and that is why our plans are 3 months long. March, June, September, and December are the months to call and check in. A good rep will explain that to you multiple times before the end of the signup, but if they did not it is also in writing on the email confirmation, cancellation form, and welcome letter you will receive. What some folks fail to understand is that we cannot possibly remember every face nor force people to pick up the phone or stop in for the 3 minutes it takes to renew your account and always make sure youre saving a few bucks. YOU MUST EITHER CALL TO RENEW OR TO CANCEL TO AVOID THE VARIABLE RATES. I try my absolute best to inform people to the best of my abilities but I can't speak on anyone else's behalf. I wish things were a little clearer and that folks were trained better, but unfortunately that is over my head and I did feel compelled to write this to clarify that it is the customer's responsibility to maintain their account. We have hundreds of thousands of customers, reminder emails get lost and we cannot possibly remember every face, so please put your dates on your calendars.
We are a good company that does a ton of charity work, employ thousands of Americans, and are working on better technology to generate cleaner energy for our future generations.
I hope this helps.
Had NRG after a bad experience with other supplier that almost doubled my rate after it expired. And paid high amount for 3 months not paying attention
NRG would have kept bus but price went from 6.7 to 7.6, therefore I called Frintier and now I'm paying less than I am now. Easy over the phone sign up
This isnt a bad company to go with as a supplier. Although the rep told me that the rates go up after the three months of service, i forgot to call to keep my fixed rate. I had noticed that my bill had gone up, and I called customer service, and they were able to fix the rate once again for two years. Reminder to just call after the three months to keep the fixed rate, don't forget like I did. That's why it had gone up to variable.

Signed up and rep was nice, customer service is nice but if you are in a variable rate agreement you better check your rates closely. Got the rate I signed up for 2 months and then it went up 23% in month 3 and another 16% in month 4....really!!!!! I beleive this company just takes advance of people. Still with the utility providers, at least they have to justify their rates with the public utility commission!
They did not save me a penny!!! In March and April 2020 DPL's prices was 4.4 cents /KwH. NRG charged me 10.4 cents per kWh and 11.5 cents in April. If you want to save money DO NOT USE NRG!!!

I signed up for a limited time (3 months) discounted rate. I knew that my rate would go up, but not to DOUBLE the price of Duke energy! Not to mention, NRG did not even honor the first three month discount. My rates started systematically hiking after just two months until I was paying nearly double what I would have been paying with Duke. I'm embarrassed that I did not look at my rates earlier as I had a feeling this would turn out bad. Of course, I could not look at my rates because there does not appear to be any sort of online account that gives me this sort of transparency. I was also on hold with their support center for way too long, but that's what you'd expect out of a company like this.
The sales guy got me at Menards. He worked for NRG Engery. He showed me the rates and I asked him if he could show me the fine print details, especially as it relates to cancellation. He said he would email them to me and had me enter my email on a tablet and click the box that I want to receive correspondence. I did so and it turns out that one action signed me up for the service. I was livid and called the company to make a complaint about this man. I was going to sign up anyway but being tricked into it was no cool.
Anyway...that bit of sleaze and slime aside I enjoyed a low energy rate for six months. My mistake was that I did not select a new provider to take effect before the variable rate changed. When it changed in the month of December (yes during the holidays) I did not have my eye on the ball and the rate doubled from almost six cents per kWh to nearly 12 cents. My electric bill is already on the high side because we have electric heat so this snafu meant we got a bill for over $1000!!! The following month was $800 because it takes times for the providers to be changed. Those bills should have been half those amounts so I threw away roughly $900.
I went from paying $0.05 a KWH to 0.12! Make sure you are paying attention when the promotional rate it over!
They have been charging my dead father for 10 months and still won't close his account. I have been calling every month or two since January. They always tell me it is in the process of transferring but they can't do it yet until somebody takes over his place. They have someone else call me back in two weeks to tell me the same thing. It has now been 10 months and I have a bill for over $500. His electricity was turned off 9 months ago. They are just stealing his money. It is coming up to the day where I can close his account but they still have not removed this bill. They are a horrible company with horrible customer service. Be aware they will cheat you out of money.
Like others, I signed up for a promotional rate with an offer of free airline points. The good rate held steady for several months, then it went from less than 5 cents, to 5 1/2 cents, to 9 cents and then up to 12 cents. It happened before I realized it. There was no notification. Are they within their rights? I guess so if they don't mind losing my business.
I, like others, fell victim to their promotion scam. I signed up at Menards, I knew that there would be a jump in price after the promotion period. But I didn't realize it would more than double. Defiantly stay away from these guys.
Didn't email, mail or call to notify my 6 month contract was about to expire as they are required to do and instead started charging we 17 cents per kWH instead of the 10 cents on my contract. I'd suggest finding some one else to sign up with.
I'm a customer of DP&L. Met a lying NRG sales in shopping mall and was told to provide a bit personal info for their survey for gift card. 1 hr later, I got a confirmation email stating I already switched to NRG services. Called NRG customer services and was told they cannot cancel this contract even though it has no my consnet. I told them on their statement, it says I can also cancel this contract within 7 days with no charge, but they still refused to cancel it. Called DP&L to solve this scam.
They suck you in with a lower rate that quickly doubles after a 90 day period. Then they statebit will take 2-3 billing cycles to transfer to original carrier. B.S. Dont fall for these folks.
They're scammers!! Charged my bill $500!!! When they say they will save you money! Don't listen! Just say no like I wish I would've. Then when I tried to call about the problem I was on hold for 10 minutes and still nobody answered! Horrible company!!
After the promotional price my rate increased, but slowly. In November my bill went from $50 a month to $125. December $160. I'm afraid to see January's bill. I switched back to AEP. Never again. If I could they will get a 0 rating. Rip off!!!!!
They hook you with a 3 month low rate, and they double the going rate!!! Beware.....
More than doubled my bill in December. 600 dollars. Then after I canceled they sent me another 500 dollar bill. These people should be in jail. Hope they burn in hell
NRG salespeople are liars, not once, but twice I was told that they their electric rates would be lower than Duke Energy. I was not told by either salesperson that it was only for the first 3 months. After 3 months the rate went from 5.8 cents per kWh to 7.95 cents per kWh to 9.7 cents per kWh the next month and for the next 7 months it stayed at 11.9 cents kWh. Meanwhile Duke energy rates averaged 5.7 cents per for the whole year. I even saw the salesperson again in the same store when he came up to me to try to sell me again and I told him my electric bill had skyrocketed and he told me again that the rates should be lower than Duke Energy and that I should call and complain. He even wrote down the number. I called them today and am awaiting a call back from the manager. I cancelled my service last month and they said it will take 2 months to cancel my service, which means I will be billed for the next 2 months at the OUTRAGEOUS rate of 11.9 cents per kWh, while Duke Energy rate is 5.62 cents per kWh. I'm sure I am not the only person this has happened to. If anyone knows of a class action suit against them, please share.
I got burned by NRG a year ago after their huge rate increases month-after-month once my first promo ended. I decided to try again to get the Southwest miles promo offer, knowing I need to cancel or renegotiate rates 1 month before my promo ends. The problem is, you can't get through to customer service. Hold times go over 30 minutes, and their emails go unanswered for a week and when they finally reply, they say they can't discuss by email so I have to call again. Tried calling again but couldn't get through - endless hold times. I then sent an email to cancel and it took 2 more weeks for them to process and say okay, that'll take 1-2 months. I was being super pro-active but now I'm going to be stuck with them for up to 2 extra months at what will likely be insanely high, undisclosed rates. I even wanted to stay as their customer if they could lock me in to a good rate, but nobody would pick up the phone to talk!!! If I were CEO of this company, I'd be absolutely furious of how their operations are run.
I was talked into this at Walmart. First she claimed my current rate was .07 but it was not when I checked. Then I started checking the reviews & contract. They can increase your rate as much as 30% after 3 months. I have since been trying to get this service rescinded/cancelled and still have not received confirmation. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH NRG HOME!
This is a scam designed for regular people to forget to call when their plan expires. Then they simply double your rate!!! 30% increase per month. It's amazing that this is legal!!!
Pathetic customer service...they cheat you...every billing cycle the rates go up and when you call to fix it they say it would take 1 to 2 billing cycle to get the rate adjusted and if you want to cancel it for that also they say will take 1 to 2 billing cycles...so its a big trap...totally avoid these cheaters...
I live in a 800sqft apartment and thanks to the doubled rates of nrg over aep I'm paying 400+ a month for electric, cant reach them on the phone waited on hold for 2 hours
DO NOT ever pick NRG. This is a company run by full of scammers. I'm searching for that sales guy who gave ma a 5 dollar gift card and made me pay several hundred bucks unwantedly. This is beyond scam. They spike up the rate so high that your bill comes as a heart attack. NEVER AGAIN.
SCAMMERS, I wish I can go back to that Walmart sales person whom offered me the deal of a lifetime to whoop his a** back into his moms womb. My bill was always $200 now Im paying $450-$500 . NRG IS TRASH & A BUNCH OF BS. Fraud ALERT.
I was in Sam's club shopping a guy stopped me and he convinced me to switch that it would save me money. It was great at the .056 rate and then after 3 months it jumped to .072 and then .097. He did tell me it was variable but in over 5 years it has never gone above .067 with the other provided I had.
So i called and they wrote me a check for $150 to get me back to the .056 rate and then i cancelled after cashing that check. They called me back the following month because they were going to give me a check again if it didn't drop back to the .056 rate and since I had cancelled they said well we aren't giving you a check.
So in the end the game is if you like the introductory rate you can keep that rate but you must call every 2 months to lock in that rate because it takes 1 month before the rate goes into effect so if you wait 3 months, which is when the introductory rate ends then you are stuck with whatever jacked up rate they are going to charge on that 4th month.
Bottom line I was never told I could lock in intro rates after the "intro rate" and I ended up basically lighting $600 on fire over a 6 month period of time and now I am going back to Duke Energy. I also read that NRG is not bound by the same regulations as Duke Energy and other electricity companies so they don't have to justify the price hike on their rates... but a terrible company and if this is how they have to make money shame on them. Won't ever switch again! lesson learned!
Every month my electricity bill is going up and have been in this house of mine for past 20 years. Never seen such drastic increase given any weather conditions or extra use of power . Switching from First energy is a big mistake - they were consistently the same basic charge every month. Wasted my time comparing bills before and after the switch and found the culprit to be NRG charges. Not sure if i can switch back as I may be under 1 yr contract. Sincere Advise - Don't fall for salespeople standing in Walmart to convert you over from one energy company to other. When I switched NRG rates were 0.01 cents less than first energy - now they are way beyond any competitor. What a mistake it was to fall into this trap. Obviously they have to pay them for selling - they get it from you eventually. Trust with marketing is dwindling in the industry as we are all fall into the traps which have conditional statements written in small that always get the customer. I am so disgruntled. Again - all if you want to waste your money - go take dollar bills and put it in garbage every month but don't give it to this energy company who do not keep their work.
My mistake to not address the increase in my bill much sooner. They doubled the rate after a few months and conduct their business counting on people not remembering to contact them after the promotion and not checking the rate increase on their bill. They certainly made some extra revenue on my account. This is exactly why I never went with an energy company other than PECO before and will not do it again. It is a bait and switch practice and unfortunately I took the bait. It cost me close to $700 more than what I would have paid with PECO. Posting to help others not make the same mistake I did. I had to live and learn and hope you dont have to.
Ibasically had the same experience as everyone else did with a bad review. My electric bill went through the roof. I called to cancel. They told me it would take 1-2 billing cycles to see it was canceled. 2 cycles go by...they are still my electric provider. I call again. Customer service tells me it was never canceled. At this point Im upset. So I was told it was canceled and a manger will be calling the next day for compensation for the next 2 months I have to wait for the electric provider change to go through the system. I received no call from a manager the next day... I then called again. I was transferred to a manager...I was then told by the manager that I still was not canceled. And the only way to cancel was through a manager...So I complained about them not canceling the first time I called... the manger then told me that all it says in the notes in my account was that I called about the rates being to high...nothing about canceling....so he would have to pull the tape from my original call to make sure I told the customer service rep I wanted to cancel...(wow). I then called my electric company (national grid). I told them my situation, they put me back on my original plan I had before I went through NRG and told me it would take 1 billing cycle to see the change. They also provided a number to place a compliant with New York State. It is NYS Public Service Commission. So please if this happens to you call your public commission, so companies like this can be stopped.
In walmart, they asked me to sign up and they will give us the better price than other services and that lower price will be there for one year but after 3 months they changed to 3 times more. I did not check the bills for one year because of work.
One day I realized I got cheated and lost several thousand dollars.
When I called they did not refunded me anything. Don't switch to this fraud company.
Called to discuss my outrageous bill and rates and to cancel my service with them and they hang up on you!!! Really???
They charge me $250 over charge every month my brother have same apartment his monthly bill is $136 and my last bill $379 same KWh for almost a year i lost a lot of money And when I called them ,they lie for my rate ,I asked them to email me my contract they told some one will call you back and never happened very bad costumer service
I signed up for a great deal and within a few months my rates had soared through the roof. At first I thought we had used so much more electric because it has been so hot out but the I realized that NRG had been charging me 16 1/2 cents per kwh. Peco's compare rate is 6 1/2 cents per kwh. This company hopes and prays you don't look at the rate and just pay it. This is a major RIP OFF and should be reported to the Public Utility Commission
The sales consultants flat out lie and are able to do so because of small print on the forms you sign. Its funny there are supposed to be consumer laws against this but apparently NRG is above that. They also lie and refuse to allow you to talk with upper management - a lot of people are being scammed out of their money by this company and it needs stopped.
THIS COMPANY IS HORRIBLE. THEY PROMIS YOU A LOW RATE THEN AFTER 6 MONTHS, DOUBLE!!! THE RATE.
MY ELECTRIC BILL IS USUALLY AROUND $92 AND FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS MY BILLS HAVE BEEN OVER $400. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.
In March my husband and I signed up for this company to be our provider. Before they had a chance to change we called to cancel our contract. A few months later I was getting emails from them. I called again and was told they are not our provider. But yet 7 Months later we were still being billed by them. When my husband and I called back we were told that they sent the request to our local electric company and the request was kicked back. This company can't be trusted. They even sent us an email back in May saying we are sorry to see you go and also asking us to do a survey.
Was at sams club they had a NRG Rep there they approached me and asked me to switch to a NRG they told I would get a $50 gift card for sams after 3 months of service. Never got the gift card. So I cancel my service them!
Don't sign up with this company!!! They get you in at a low price for 3 months, expecting that you won't check your electric bill. After the 3 months fixed rate expires, the rate gets stupid high and keeps going up especially once the air conditioner shuts off for the season; they try to keep the $$$ the same on your bill by raising the rate.
I had NRG for 3 months that is it. I signed up at Sams club, They promised that my rate would be the same for 6 months, .05... But it was that for the first month and then went to .15 the second month. When I called the manager made an excuse saying their costs went up threw AEP. So I cancelled of course they did not cancel it they lied again so the next month when my bill went up over $200 more then the previous month I had to call AEP themselves to complain and cancel. Anyone claiming they are legit must be an employee... Cause it is a big scam.
For all those people saying others are stupid for not listening to the rep saying you have to call after the promotion period, hear me out. THE SALES PERSON DID NOT TELL ME YOU HAD TO DO THIS. In fact, the guy straight up LIED TO MY FACE and said it was a fixed rate, which is completely FALSE. I also did not give him permission to sign me up, I told him straight up, I'd have to discuss this with my S.O. before I commit to anything, yet he somehow weaseled his way to manipulate me into signing some shit, saying he WASNT signing me up, that it was just for future reference that'll make signing up easier and I'd be added to the mailing list. When I got home and checked my email, I called immediately to cancel. Someone called me later that day to survey me on my experience. This lady was extremely unenthused and rude. The same rep who got me to sign up harasses me every single time I come into the store. He was aggressive and nasty to me ever since. I've had to tell managment of the walmart they post up in about this experience because its extremely unprofessional. I just had to write this experience on here to warn people about these sales reps. They're truly terrible people.
I got taken in for Southwest rewards miles. NRG looks like it has competitive rates at first, so I figured why not. Three months later, my electric bill tripled. Good luck getting anyone from customer service on the phone.
My bill went up over $200 a month they are a disgrace
If you go through NRG as an energy supplier you need to check your statements! We have been getting high electric bills so we thought we would solve the problem and get a wood stove. I have just checked our meter because our bill should be coming any day now and i was excited to see what our bill would go down to.
We've used 1350 kwh this month. similar to last January 2018 the difference is we were charged 0.0540000 X 1350 kwh= the cost of energy usage, then with the fees our bill was 161. < this was AEPs rate.
We were offered what they said a better rate. so we took it in February. It was 0.0560000 X kwh < which is'nt better but i did'nt know any different to look at the bill and know what i was looking at. after a couple months they raised the price. to 0.1190000.
so this Dec/January we are being charged 160.65 ALONE for usage
last January we paid 72.90 for usage and a total bill of 161.
i called the supplier and they said too bad so sad that we didn't call them after the 3 month contract they didn't tell us about so our cost went up.
our meter has not been read yet so we will yet again get another high bill because NRG says it will take 3-30 buisness days for it to cancel. i am NOT happy.
485$ we overpaid since june (when the rate doubled!) - june-january
DONT - Pick NRG
i will not stop writing bad reviews until you make this right. i already have alot of people canceling your service after hearing my story!
These guys charge you 16.9 cents per kwh when you can get rates today (1/10/20) as low as 9.8 and avg around 12.5. For my average 2100 KWH/mth at 16.9 cents, my supplier cost is $354. At avg 12.5 cents my cost would have been $263, an overcharge of about $90 per month. If you shop, you could get a rate of 9.8 cents, or in my case, a supply cost of $206. Now, who wants to pay $354/mth to NRG, or, $206/mth to a competitor????? Stupid me, just caught this and I have been gouged for $150/mth EXTRA for 5 years!!!!! CHECK YOUR BILL!!! DO NOT PAY 16.9 CENTS TO NRG WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER COMPETITORS OUT THERE, THAT WON'T CHEAT SENIOR CITIZENS, OR ANY OTHER VICTIM THEY CAN FIND. Oh, by the way, I never signed up with NRG, I thought they were Eversource's default supplier... Just sayin'... Ruuuuuuuun from NRG.....
They harassed me I didnt even want to sign up at Walmart. I e cancelled three times and they still keep contacting me they wont leave me alone!!! Dont sign u with them they are fraud.
they are nothing but scammers haven't saved me a dime and then when I called to cancel they said "are you sure because you cant get us again for 6 months" ...Are we kidding so your telling me I can not sign up again for your program that saved me no money and I can not longer be overcharged?
I signed up in december 2019 my first bill didnt show anything got my second bill shows an amount of 404 plus my regular bill which was about 328 a total of over 700 I'm so pissed they will be getting a call from me
Hello. I canceled all my accounts with them, though they are people to trust. Same story with everyone, you didnt call and Nrg increases prices. However I called 3 or so month ago, they dropped the price and send out gift card for $25. Than raised price and stole hundreds. How is sams club or others retailers can put them in their stores???? People, run away!
Same as others , signed up for slightly lower rates and told this would be ongoing. I'm on budget payment so power company estimates monthly bill based on previous usage then there is a balloon payment at end of year. Problem is NRG more than doubled my rate after a few months without my knowledge leading to a bill over $700 more than previous years. The call every 3 months is bullshit, no one should have to do that and if they raise your rate they should be required to inform you. NOTHING MORE THAT A RIP OFF SCAM . DON'T DO IT.
Signed up to NRG at the airport for the air miles and theyve creeped my rate up to nearly triple the best price in the market , Ive paid around $1000 extra this winter due to NRG , should not be allowed !
Inept, unprofessional, with their head up their #%&. These people have no clue about customer service, adherence to policy or anything closely related to running a business. Do NOT start using them for services, and if you have a choice, opt for another provider!
We used them for electricity. First 3 months was slightly lower than AEP. We forgot to call at the end of 3 months to renew the rate (which is ridiculous that you have to call every 3 months) and last month the rate was .064 (AEP was .054). Just got the bill for this month and now the rate is .084 (AEP is still .054). Complete scam artists. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Other family members have had the same experience with the price gouging. I cannot say enough now much I hate this company.
I signed up with a low rate of .05 kWh. It's kind of like the frog in slowly boiling water analogy. They slowly sneak the price per kWh until it's more than double when you notice what's going on. It takes another billing cycle to get rid of them. Cost me hundreds of dollars more than the electric supplier would have been if I had not switched. Terrible decision
I called to cancel and they hung up on me twice.
I signed up with NRG after talking with a rep several months back. At first it seemed great because I was saving a few bucks on my electricity by going with them. After the 3 month contract special was up they kicked me into a higher priced tier for the next three months with my bill going up all three months. Even though I used less electricity in Feb 2020 it was even higher than Jan. My rate increased twice in the last 3 months.
Don't go with NRG.
Worst electric supplier ever! Dont fall for promotional scams. They charged us double price for electric after a 3 month promotional period expired which I was never told was a promotion in the first place. I even asked if the price would shoot up and they said it would remain the same price for a year. Not only are they liars, but they double charge each month and apparently thats how they make there money because they cant keep customers long enough to do so.
Started in August when use and price was low. By late February, once rates became "variable", NRG increased rate from .47 to.71. This is a rip off
I wanted central Air for the summers but the salesman; Ziv, talked me into getting a heater as well.. My heater was doing great and was only six years old. But the smooth talking salesman got me to order heating as well.
I am 80 years old and get cold easily.
Where I sit is right in front of a floor vent. When ever the heat goes on, there is a blast of cold air right at me.
They sent a specialist to check the heater and after checking it out he said I should shut down the vent. WHAT? My old heater was fine, now Im freezing.
NEVER TRUST this company or Ziv the salesman.
I would pay to have my old heater back, it worked perfectly.
I switched from NRG back to my local supplier after NRG messed up my billing then failed to renew my contract. After one month my electric bill doubled. Customer service said that was the variable rate now. Pretty bad during these times people losing their job NRG decides to double their price.
Started using them as they were cheaper than West Penn. That lasted 2 month. Rate tripled and compared to West Penn they are more than double now.
I switched to NRG to get a Southwest Airlines promotional reward (miles). The intro rate was lower than I was paying. However, over time they increased my rates to 2.5 times market rates. Shame on me for not noticing right away. When I noticed I switched back to BG&E as my supplier, reduced my rates from over $.15 to under $.07 per kWh. This is their business model. They lure people in with promotions and teaser rates and then count on the fact that most don't analyze their bill each month and/or the fact that the process to switch back isn't transparent or easy to figure out. I will say that once I called they offered to reduce my rates and when I persisted in saying I wanted to end the relationship the woman I spoke to did so readily.
My mistake of switching to NRG cost me hundreds of dollars easily. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO PROVIDE YOUR POWER.
Do not use these scammers. They will double your utility Bill in 3 months or less. They need a lawsuit filed against them.
I used to pay 80 dollars average but after switching to this My cost went up to 400 dollars.. never ever try this.
I was approached in a Walmart. I was intrigued! Then after 3 months, my bill spiked! So I tried to cancel it. I was told that it was canceled, but I was getting bills $400-$500 a month!!! I cant afford that. Come to find out thy not only did the rep not cancel the services, its price is more than double of the actual electric company. Please dont ask to speak to a supervisor because in this multimillion dollar company, they only have one that is able to help! I was robbed for damn near $3000!!!!
BEWARE of this company!!! NRG will promise to save you money and at first you will. But they will then change your account to "variable" and before you know it you will be paying DOUBLE or more. I contacted my previous supplier, Penelec and inquired about their rate. (the company NRG promised to be cheaper than) They quoted me a rate of HALF what I am currently paying with NRG. When I called to cancel the operator said that after 3 months my account went to variable and that yes I was paying a much higher rate. WOW....pretty much blatant theft right there. DO NOT fall for their sales pitch. This company is corrupt in their business practices and has infuriated many customers according to their reviews. I wish I had known before I made the switch but they caught us at Walmart where I couldn't fact check them. They tell you how they want to save you money and why wouldn't you switch? Nice sales pitch but unfortunately it is NOT TRUE!
Scammmm don't sign-up
They doubled my bill without warning. They told me that once the promo is over that the price would potentially go up to market value. Doubling isnt market value. Scummy business practice
They seem to have no renewable options, meaning they mostly use the most polluting source of energy such as coal. Their sales tactics are despicable. And, if you compare electric rates, they are not competitive.
The set up in Walmart, they prmise to always be cheaper than your supplier, then they more than double the rate. These are crooks
These are crooks that promise savings then double or triple your bill.
Do not sign up for this company!!! They will ROB you. They signed me up telling me my bill will be lower than what peco can offer. Sign up, and then 6 months later they are charging me DOUBLE what peco wouldve charged me. PECO IS 6 cents per KW, NRG IS 14!! In a time where more than half of our WORLD is out of work with NO income, they are doubling the price for their energy! With no warning of a doubled increase!! Do not ever give these fucking scumbags your money. Ever. They will rob you and leave you hanging to die. Fuck you NRG.
I probably should have requested to speak to a supervisor but I am fed up with all of the hassle & pleading for better service. When I advised the agent that I had a lower rate available than NRG was offering & asked if NRG could match it she said that she would change it to the (higher) NRG rate and went into the rest of the spiel they read off. If you dont review your monthly price with NRG compared to other companies you will most definitely be overpriced! I overpaid $127 monthly for at least several months!!!
I never wanted to get solar panels in the first place. However, the super slick salesman talk to my wife into it. I always had doubts about the positioning of my house and weather it got enough sun. I was assured that it would be calculated using satellites. I was also told by my sales person that it would only cost $500 to remove and replace them if I needed a new roof. I now understand Its closer to $3000. Before I had solar my JCP&L bill was $125 a month. Right now my solar bill is $160 a month and my JCP&L bill varies from $50-$150 a month. Getting solar panels was one of the biggest mistakes and regrets of my entire life.
was approached at Best buy, have noticed mtd and month over month utility bill has escalated exponentially shame on a company for taking advantage of people especially during this time in our country. Should be shut down by BBB. They promise to lock you in at a better rate lower than what you are being charged by regular provider, feel like they should be sued for purposely misinforming customers.
They sent a technician out to update my solar and they screwed up my whole system. It is no longer working and I have to continue to pay them and my electric bill. It is a nightmare and no one will call me to speak to me. I keep getting these canned emails. When I call no one answers or if they do they say the turn around time is 2 weeks. Thanks for nothing you rotten horrible solar company!!!!
This is the most fraud scam company.. How you going to charge me 180 bucks for 78 dollar power usage?. Not only that i didnt even know my account was still active until i look at my recent bills. I cancelled this stupid company 7 months ago n somehow magically come back and renewed? Gtfo
Watch out people for this scammers. They overpriced my bill not because of my usage. They didnt help me reduce my electric bill. Instead, I was paying two separate bill . I am paying my electric bill for the company I am using and also paying ngr bill. I found out to my electric company that ngr was charging me 3 times more than the amount I was paying per kWh with my electric company. I went from paying $30-$50 on winter time and $51-$80 on summer time a month with my electric company , to $230-$500 a month when I signed up for nrg without any changes in daily routine. Theyre MTF scammers. Dont sign up please or you will end up where I am now with a $500 bill to pay and no food!
My electric bill doubled and I didn't even confirm their use, because I wasn't sure. Don't sign up with them , you'll be sorry. I'd like to see a law suit started for everone who was TAKEN !!!!
They will offer you a low rate and tell you to "follow up in a few months when the promo ends" if you don't, they will double or TRIPLE your rate.
SCAM!!!!! The gift card is not worth it!
Do not sign up with this company. It is a total scam company that the number in their website is not even correct. Avoid this crooked company at all cost. Will give you a $25 Best Buy gift card and first 3 months a slight better rate than BGE but will increase the rate by 40% after that with no notice. If BGE charges you 7.5 cent these crooks will make you pay 12cents per kilowatt.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this horrible company.
I have been an NRG customer for several years now and truly regret ever doing business with them! Anytime I have a problem and need to reach out to their customer service it is a long and aggravating process. I have to keep calling over and over and cannot reach the person that is supposed to be assisting me. I hate constantly being told that they will email the person that is handling my claim rather than being able to speak to him or her directly. And needless to say no one ever calls me back. NRG has absolutely no clue what good customer service is about.
They grabbed in a local Walmart. Convinced me NRG is cheaper. I noticed over time that my $/KWH kept increasing. That said, they have not told me that the offer was only valid for 3 months, no informing me about the change.
Don't waste your money!
They did not explain very well about the call back. I should not have to jump through hoops to keep my electric bill at a reasonable cost.
This company is a joke, I went from paying 180$ a month to more than double that when I used NRG. Nothing dramatic changed with how much electric I used either.
I would RUN and RUN as fast as you can from this company...I just got a 900 bill!! Now Last months bill was almost 800 I contacted the electric company I have NEVER had an electric bill so high, and of course, it was explained as to why it was so high...of course, my electric billing provider can't do anything because I was promised a different rate by this electric provider which ended up being a LOT higher....costing me triple the amount of what I have ever paid in the past! When I contacted customer service the only concern was getting me to stay, not in helping me resolve the issue while in the midst of a pandemic while I am fighting covid a month later. I am so disgusted and disappointed!!! DO NOT UTILIZE this provider unless you want a massive bill!!!
They lure you in with false promises then raise your rate by double.
They will charge you double or triple on your electricity bill.
They approached my mother in Sam's Club with a fancy sales pitch so she went for it. Then after a free months she was hit with hundreds of dollars in fees, and a higher rate. My mother who is retired on disability went from $175/month on electric to well over $700 without warning. When we contacted Duke, they said these kind of providers are unregulated and can basically do whatever they want when it comes to charges. I don't know how they can sleep at night.
I ran into these guys at Walmart and they were pushy and wanted to sign me up. The last few months. My bill has been 170 to 190 dollars. There charging 95 cents a kilowatts and aep is only 59 cents. I wouldnt recommend getting them. The last bill i had charged me 100 dollars by themselves. Aep charged me 77
This review discusses NRG's pricing and their role as an alternative supplier of electricity. They supply the electricity to my provider, PP&L, so comment on that role actually describes my entire experience with NRG. I relied upon NRG as having trading experience and knowledge that might produce a better price than PP&L. Instead, I paid NRG 15.9 cents per KWH throughout this past winter (2020-2021), while PP&L was charging less than 8 cents. That gap is so wide as to contradict any real attempt at competition or skill at trading. It was a cold winter and I paid bills of $500-$800 per month. Before I was allowed to cancel, proposals from NRG's rep included price discounts for 3 months that would beat PP&L's pricing. That told me that NRG was ready to charge excessively high prices to existing customers to enable costly discounts to new (or renewing) customers. I will not do business with this outfit again.
I talk to one of there employees at Walmart west Chester oh. After he went with me all over the kWH charges
He stated that I ll save lot of money by switching from duke energy to NRG
At the end I was not confident I left without signing anything
He said anyway you ll receive a call from 800 number if you agree to switch to NRG give them the ok
I received many call from the 800 number but did not answer none of them.
Since the day I talk to this employee my electrical bill went up every month till I reached the bill of $480 I called duke energy they said that s because of the third party supplier that I did not even I had.
I was paying my bill without even checking what s in there
Instead of getting charged for 0.054 kwh I was charged for 0.094 kwh for the last 6 months.
Please everyone whose reading my review do not sign with please.
As many others of talked about in their reviews, the company's business model appears to be attract you into an introductory offer, then charge obscenely high rates in the hope that you will pay your bills without paying attention. In my case, I have been paying .10790/kwh for the electricity portion of my bill, while PECO rates were .0627/kwh. When I called NRG, they wanted to offer me a new promotional rate.....I guess this works for someone who will stay on top of their tactics, but not for me. As it turns out, I have been paying out of market rates for many years.
I switched after being approached in the airport and since Im on a PECO budget plan I wasnt checking monthly bills and just got a catch up bill for over $800 and my monthly budget job mped up by $55 per month due to high increase in NRG charges! Total scam!!! Im dropping them immediately and may pursue legal action.
I signed up for NRG and was told I would be a customer. I was never enrolled and when i checked back later to check my status and re enroll the per unit cost had elevated. My experience was no experience as the company did not folloow through.
An NRG rep came to my door and I I declined their services. 5 months later I get an email from aep stating my transmission is to be changed to nrg home. Door to door scammers.
Was shopping in Walmart and was approach but NRG salesman. Was told if I gave my information I was only signing up to receive info and was to receive $20 Walmart gift card. Did not receive gift card and starting receiving emails thanking me for signing up for an account. When I called they confirmed I had indeed signed up. Do not fall for this. Especially when they say they are using your drivers license only to validate you are a Duquesne Light customer. Scam!!! When I called to ensure it was cancelled I asked for my gift card and there was no way for them to give me one.
I don't remember signing up but it was only after reviewing my outrageous bill in detail did I realize that NRG was charging me $0.119/KWH when PECO's pricing was $0.0640...nearly double the costs and I had been paying that rate for over 2 years. Shame on me for not looking at my bill closely but shame on them for charging nearly double PECO's rates. In all, I think I paid nearly $2,000 more than I should have for the past 24 months!
They are thief. Lied to me that my energy bill would go down if I chose them as a service provider. It went up 200%. Later heard from other people that they are fraud.
Stay away from them! There bullshit promise is good for 6 months but then hiked way up above variable,..then 60 days to cancel and they raise it even further!
Stick with aep or shop around !
I ran into a young lady at Walmart that convinced me to switch over after showing me how much money they could save me. My bill was about the same (everything they "saved" me in electric fees they made up for in rider charges). I was fine with this, since I couldn't tell a difference in the total amount I was paying. After 6 months my bills shot up hundreds of dollars more than what I was paying before (comparing to the same months last year). When I finally had 2 straight bills over $700, I had to call and cancel. Be prepared for looooong wait times if you try to call and cancel.
On 7/19/21 I made the mistake of enrolling with a salesperson while shopping at Walmart. The salesperson looked up my rate online and showed me that NRG's rate was more than 20% lower than my current rate through Duke Energy. When I got home, I reviewed my latest bill and the rate I was paying was actually lower than NRG's rate. I immediately filed NRG's "Notice of Cancellation" form via email. They responded that they could not cancel it, that I had to call Duke Energy (current supplier) to cancel. I called Duke Energy on 7/20/21, explained the situation and they told me that they would take care of it. On 7/27/21 I got a letter from Duke stating that NRG would be my new supplier unless I called Duke to cancel. I called Duke on 7/28/21 to cancel NRG for the second time. Hopefully this is the end of it.
They doubled my rate with no nonfiction. Call and was told there was nothing I could do about it. Call utility company and stop all payments.
I paid 600 dollars on electric double every month electric company said they are a scammer collector dont say or display contact to that company
Don't waste your time there are better companies.
I was with them for a year and had pretty competitive rates, but apparently I didnt renew so they doubled my p/kwh. I called to cancel and they offered me another competitive rate, but they effectively wiped out any savings Id had for the year by doubling my rate for 3 months.
Its a pretty dirty business model. Dont use them.
This company is con artist, they will get you with 3 months special rate than your bill will double, or like mine went up 400%. PLEASE STAY AWAY. They got me at Menards with $50 dollars gift card, i regret my decision. Please be wise, do your research.
Im such a fool wanting those southwest points little did I know NRG was hiking the price through hidden small print deception til I was paying double
Im embarrassed and angry at myself and have nothing but contempt for the greed of NRG. I will share my story with all the public outlets I can as long as I can. NRG is evil
Winters in Illinois sucks bad enough but with an electric heater and these greasy people handling my electric bill it just pissed me off! 300 dollar electric bill for a one bedroom apartment!!! 0.12 kWh!!! Enough said!!!!
Got sucked in based upon getting some American Airlines miles. Four months later, I was paying over .70 cents per therm when everyone else is at .36 cents per therm. Did not realize how much it was until 18 months later due to a billing/credit card error when I got a $3,000 bill. When I called to discuss it, they kept saying how they were not obligated to do anything but would refund me $380 out of the outstanding charge. Never again!
will double / triple without warning immediately after promo time frame ends.
I signed up for both gas & electric because the salesman told me it would save me money and was good for the environment. And, for the electric one, they also gave me bonus miles.
What they did not tell me was a) it would cost more $1.5k MORE than comed or people's gas over the course of 1.5 yrs.
The only way to get a $150 check back is to sign on for another year -- and then the low rate only lasts 2 months and you'd have to call again. (PS - the airline miles come at a higher rate -- I didn't even want them!)
Now I am out $1,500 for nothing. What a waste of money and a fraudulent company. They say they aren't fraudulent b/c the fine print tells you that the rate is variable and can go up. Righhhhhht.
I signed up with them at AMC theater to get a 25 gift card. Big mistake. Bill eventually doubled and I get a $2-3.00 check in the mail which wasn't worth thetrip to the bank. Their supply rate is currently .12 vs .06 from electric company. Do your research and don't sign up on the spot before you have compared rates.
Last year in December 2018 some nice lady was stop me on some cinema place about promoting nrg , and if Im interested to switch, because price was ok and even lower than ComEd, I was switch to nrg, of course she forgot to mention one important thing, like must call nrg every 3 months to negotiate price of Elektryk...??!! After one year of reaping me off I was checking my last bill something is to high and of course price was double than ComEd !!! After calling customer service everything was explaining to me , what a shame it was to late of this , when I was decided to cancel and switch to ComEd they told me this will keep them 1-2 service before this will happen!!! Plus they will charge me even more before this will happen!!! Thank you nrg for this scam !!!
I felt sorry for myself that I just noticed my rate was too high. NRG representative lied. He did not explain to us to call every 3 months to update the rate. I called the NRG and asked why our rate is .109 and said we never called before the promotional rate ends. Ridiculous! Rep never said anything about that. Sadly they will still bill us for 2 months after cancelling them. Being screwed for over a year.
So, I've just figured out that going with NRG on my home and several rental properties has cost me nearly $4,000.00 (YES FOUR THOUSAND $$) in the last six month. I have my account set up to be automatically paid and they are set on budget billing. So, I get alerts that tell my the amount of each bill, but its only at the end of the year that the budget billing # goes up or down. You can imagine how I felt when I saw astronomical raises in budget billing. For example one property went from 261 to 456. I couldn't imagine what those occupants were doing!! Since one was my home, I knew something was off. When I signed on with NRG, I got a low rate (4.7) with a three month freeze knowing that it go up. Of course I figured it would go up to a fairly normal market price. I reviewed the contract and it is limited to 30 percent per month, but I didn't think that would be the minimum. Right now my rate is over 14.1. I guess next month will be 18.3, followed by 23.8, 30.9 and then 40.15. WOW. that rate would make my bill 1,127 at home as compared to 261. Well, thankfully the end of the year came and I was notified by Ameren that my budget billing was going up to 456. Of course Ameren wasn't looking at the 30 percent monthly hikes either--had they done that they would have been able to see that by the end of the year, the rate would have increased from .13 to .31. Not even Ameren would foresee the $261 going up to over 1,000. I guess the idea is to rip me off as long as you can until I get wise. How greedy can you get?
This company fraudulently had me sign up in Sams club telling me I was already sign with there company. Do not trust them
They initially start off with a nice plan stating that as a customer we dont see any change in the rate plan. With out any communication, they doubled the price of the kilowatt per unit and when i asked them to cancel it , they say it may take 2 billing cycles during which time they continue to charge the hiked amount. Stay away from these marketing tricks.
Total scam. In Chicago they try to sign you up in Menards. They are charging rates twice the amount you would be charged using ComEd. They charge 0.119 when
ComEd charges 0.071 per kWH. It 67 % on top of what you should be paying.
I asked them to provide me with the written contract. Did not get it from the. The bill comes from the ComED. I thought that the ComED is rising the prices but when I called ComED they said that it is a third party provider not them, who is charging me such a higher rates. I never got any letter from them. They just operate the call center and singn poeple in at WalMart, Menrads... This is a total fraud. Lack of transparancy , lack of proper billing. I filed a complain with Illinois Commerce Commision. I was told that people file the complains against NRG Retail Solution with the Illinois Commerce Commision.
If I did not call ComEd and complained about the higher rates I would be still paying high rates. The cancellation of the contract takes two billing cycles ( two months ).
They singed you in without your knowledge in one day.
They will switch the initial rate without notifying you. They will actually double the initial rate. That is how they make money. It may take more than two billing cycles to switch back to your original or a new supplier.
Stay away cant believe their in business. Total CON GAME. My wife paying the bills, I never noticed. Rates doubled within months of signing up. Complete scum bags.
They offer a lower rate, which is true on paper, but the fees made my bill the same as paying the supplier directly, which I had been before. You get an annual check, which was decent the first year. But the second year they increased the rates by 50%, and the check was much smaller. This year my bills have DOUBLED what they were a year ago, which was already 50% higher than the year before that. The check I got recently was almost nothing. I made sure nothing in the contract said they could do this before I signed anything, so they are doing this without telling you, even in the fine print. The bill I opened today was over $200, and shows I use less kWHs for that billing period than I did for that period a year ago, when my bill was less than $100. Stay the hell away from this company.
They are so quick to be on your account and take so long to get removed its ridiculous! I understood I was to call after 3 mon to change the rate but I want to cancel it. They make canceling impossible. You talk to people and think its been handled and all of a sudden oh we never received a call about canceling. Oh this is ridiculous! Scammers is what they are.
They stand around In WalMarts selling their service this should be the 1st red flag! Then when they hook you they BANK on you forgetting to call in after 3 months and when you do forget then bump you to 10.9 cents per KWH where Ameren is at 4.5 cents per KWH. Way to screw people during these times we are in, if I could give 0 star rating I would!
What a scam! I have three accounts with them all of a sudden it tripled. I called and they said well we can lower it again but I have to call every three months. So between working raising kids businesses Im supposed to stop and do this also big rip off do not do not do not do it!
NRG is the worst company ever to use as a supplier, my bill went from 138 to 263 then to 368 and continue to go up please people do not fall for the scam the reps work out of Walmart. I never signed up for it
Your bill will always change, the prices continually go up, this company is a rip off. DO NOT USE. STAY AWAY from NRG. Your bill will be extremely high and they won't help.
NRG bribes you with gift cards for the store your shopping in. They promise you super low rates then after a few months they raise their rates extremely high! When I called to speak about this all of their employees were rude. You can tell they hate their job. Probably because everyone hates their company. They must get 1000 complaints a day and they do not do anything to satisfy the customer! Imagine a normal gas bill in the winter being around $80 then add another $70 if you have NRG! Why have NRG?? Just stick to peoples gas alone and save yourself half the bill!
